Dr Knight is a Consultant Physician in Respiratory and Internal Medicine at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust and Central London Community Health (West Hertfordshire Community Respiratory Service). He is also Associate Postgraduate Dean in Medicine based at Health Education England in Cambridge.
He sees patients privately with respiratory problems such as breathlessness, cough and chest pain, and holds regular clinics at BMI Bishops Wood Hospital (in Northwood, London), Spire Thames Valley Hospital (near to Gerrards Cross/ Beaconsfield) and BMI Bushey Consulting Rooms (in Bushey, Hertfordshire).
He qualified from University College London in 2005 and undertook respiratory speciality training in the northwest Thames Respiratory training programme, rotating via the Royal Free, Hammersmith, Royal Brompton, Harefield, Barnet, Northwick Park and Watford General hospitals. He also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Allergy Medicine at Imperial College London.
Dr Knight leads the Pleural Diseases and Unexplained Breathlessness services at Watford General Hospital, and participates actively in research into these areas. He regularly performs pleural procedures and bronchoscopy procedures and he supervises and performs cardio-pulmonary exercise tests on a weekly basis. Dr Knight is a member of the Lung Cancer multi-disciplinary team at West Hertfordshire Hospitals, working closely with colleagues at Mount Vernon, University College and Harefield hospitals.
He is actively involved with the specialist training and education of junior doctors both locally in Watford and at a national level with Health Education England. He sits as a non-executive director on the board of Penrose Care, a registered provider of home care services in northwest London.
Dr Knight manages patients with a wide range of respiratory problems, but has a particular interest in the following areas of Respiratory Medicine:
Unexplained Breathlessness
Cough and wheeze
Pleural diseases
Asthma and Respiratory allergies
Recurrent chest infections and fever
Sleep Apnoea
Lung cancer (diagnosis and screening)
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Dr Knight works closely with his colleagues in the Chest Clinic as well as colleagues in Respiratory Physiology, Cardiology, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Radiology and Thoracic surgery to ensure that patients treated by him receive the best possible care.
Dr Knight provides care for both outpatients and inpatients. He has clinics on Monday afternoon (BMI Bushey Consulting Rooms), alternate Thursday afternoons (Bishops Wood) and Friday afternoon (Spire Thames Valley). Cross cover in emergencies is provided by other members of the Chest Clinic team who see patients across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and North-West London.
